There are several locations in Langkawi where you can stay. Whether you seek peace and quiet, a taste of local life, or proximity to beach bars, whether you prefer budget or luxury accommodation, you’ll find a wide range of options including hotels, homestays, private villas, or hostels to suit your preferences.
If you plan to visit Langkawi during peak seasons such as Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, or LIMA, we highly recommend booking your accommodation several months in advance.
Areas for accommodation in Langkawi
The main areas where you can stay in Langkawi are:
Cenang
A stunning destination known for its beauty and vibrant atmosphere. Located on the west coast of Langkawi, it offers a range of activities including water sports, dining options, massages, duty free shops, bars and stunning sunset views. Whether you’re looking for relaxation or adventure, Cenang Beach has something for everyone. Accommodation here ranges from luxury resorts to budget guesthouses and hostels, and although Cenang is a popular tourist destination, it also offers quiet accommodation for unwind.
Tengah
Located right next to the Cenang, it is a slightly quieter but still with plenty of restaurants, shops, bars and other services for tourists. Just like Cenang, Pantai Tengah offers a diverse range of accommodations to suit every preference. Perfect for those seeking a relaxed atmosphere with easy access to amenities and services.
Tanjung Rhu, Kastam, Hitam
The northern beaches of Langkawi, often collectively known as Tanjung Rhu, offer a serene escape from the bustling tourist spots of Cenang and Tengah. Unlike these areas, Tanjung Rhu lacks beach bars, western restaurants, money changers and duty-free shops. Instead, it provides a peaceful retreat with minimal tourists and an authentic local atmosphere. Most accommodations are centered in Ayer Hangat, where you will find smaller guesthouses and homestays. For a more luxurious experience, the Four Seasons Resort and Tanjung Rhu Resort, both featuring private beaches, are located a bit further afield.
Kok
This quieter part of Langkawi features luxury hotels like The Danna and Berjaya. You won’t find many restaurants or shops around, main pros are serenity and privacy. The area benefits from its proximity to Sky Bridge, Skytrex Adventure Park, Telaga Tujuh Waterfall, and Telaga Harbour, where ferry depart for Koh Lipe. You can reach Cenang in about a 20-minute drive by car.
Datai Bay
Pristine, secluded paradise known for its clear water and lush, tropical surroundings. This serene beach offers a perfect escape for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty. The only accommodation here is The Datai Langkawi, a luxury resort that blends seamlessly with the rainforest, providing guests with a unique and immersive experience. Whether you’re lounging on the soft sands or exploring the nearby jungle, Datai promises a memorable and rejuvenating retreat.
Kuah
Main town in southeast Langkawi, is home to the island’s largest jetty. This vibrant area offers a wide variety of restaurants, shops, duty-free and other services. You can explore attractions like Eagle Square and Maha Tower, as well as several temples of different religions. However, aside from the private beaches at The Westin and St. Regis hotels, there are no public beaches for relaxation. Both Cenang and Tanjung Rhu are approximately a 30-minute drive away.
Padang Matsirat
Located next to Langkawi International Airport, Padang Matsirat is just a 15-minute drive from Cenang. While it doesn’t offer beaches or typical tourist facilities, you’ll find plenty of local restaurants and stalls open all day. This is a perfect spot to soak up the local atmosphere. Popular hotels include The Smith House, only a 5-minute drive from the airport, and Wings by Croske Resort, conveniently located next to the airport. Padang Matsirat is ideal for those who want to experience local life or need a easy access to the airport, especially during events like LIMA.
Ulu Melaka
Ulu Melaka, located in the northern part of Langkawi, boasts a rich history and cultural heritage. Visit the iconic Makam Mahsuri to learn about the legendary Mahsuri curse that shaped Langkawi’s history. Enjoy scenic views of Gunung Raya, Langkawi’s highest peak, or the lush green paddy fields. Additionally, there are many local restaurants where you can taste typical Malaysian specialties. In terms of accommodation, you’ll find smaller resorts, homestays, and private villas where you can fully enjoy the hospitality of the Malaysian countryside. Due to its strategic location in the middle of the island, all other parts of Langkawi can be reached in about 20 minutes by car.
Rebak Island
Rebak Island can be seen from Cenang and reached in 10 minutes by boat. It is a small island with only one resort: Rebak Island Resort and Marina Langkawi. This makes it ideal for those seeking tranquility, empty beaches, and a calming atmosphere. Boats leave the island regularly several times a day, so when you’re ready for a taste of civilization, it’s easy to take a trip to the main island of Langkawi.
Tuba Island, Dayang Bunting Island
Two islands connected by a bridge near Langkawi offer natural treasures such as caves and mangroves that remain untouched by tourism. The locals here still make a living from traditional crafts, particularly fishing, as well as producing Mengkuang, hand-woven mats. The whole island exudes a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere with a touch of old-world charm. There are only a few accommodations available, so we recommend booking in advance. Low cost accommodation in Langkawi
Langkawi is one of Malaysia’s most sought-after destinations, offering a wide range of accommodations. For budget-conscious travelers, some of the cheapest options include hostels and simple homestays. These affordable choices often allow you to stay a short distance from the beach at low prices.

The hostel features air-conditioned dorms and private rooms, free Wi-Fi, shared relax area, garden and BBQ facilities, ensuring guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Budget-friendly excursions are also regularly organized for guests. Most guests praise the friendly atmosphere, cozy vibe and original interior.

The hostel offers both dormitory-style and private rooms, all equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and private bathrooms. Guests can find several local restaurants nearby, and scooter rentals are available for exploring Langkawi. Additionally, a night market is held every Thursday, providing a vibrant local experience.

They also provides affordable shared tours, scooter rental, and transport arrangements to other destinations. To mingle with other travelers, Rainbow Lodge includes a cozy bar.
In Blissful, you’ll discover cozy cottages nestled in the pleasant shade of trees. Cenang Beach and a variety of restaurants are just a 10-minute walk away. If you prefer to stay closer, Kelly’s Cafe is right next door, offering delicious coffee and homemade breakfast or lunch. Nearby is Indiana, a restaurant where you can enjoy not only excellent coffee, but also great vegan and vegetarian dishes.
Corrie Chalet offers well-maintained, clean accommodation with the prime advantage of being located right on Tengah Beach. Enjoy easy access to swimming and water sports, along with a variety of nearby restaurants. Seafood lovers will appreciate the fantastic restaurant in front door, offering amazing sunset views. For a more upscale experience and Insta-worthy photos, visit Hidden, just a short distance away.
Tanjung Puteri Motel is located in Ayer Hangat, a quieter part of Langkawi that has yet to be overrun by tourism. Here, you’ll find clean accommodations with a swimming pool offering spectacular views, all at a very reasonable price. The area boasts plenty of dining options, especially local restaurants and stalls, and there’s a vibrant night market on Fridays. Enjoy the empty beaches and peaceful atmosphere, and if you’re interested in local culture and crafts, visit the nearby Craft Complex.
Standard accommodation in Langkawi
The selection of popular standard accommodations includes hotels and smaller resorts, which are mostly older with simpler facilities. In exchange for modest amenities, you’ll find accommodation on or near the beach at very reasonable prices. Many would consider it a low-cost option given the excellent value for money and prime location.
The Airis is about a 10-minute walk from the beach and just 5 minutes from the nearest restaurants. It offers accommodations with a pleasant garden, lakes, and a swimming pool. Guests can choose from several accommodation types, and families will appreciate the new building, which allows two separate rooms to be combined into one family room.
Located about 10 minutes from the beach, this simple hotel offers great value for money. Shopping, massages, and dining are at your fingertips. If you prefer to stay in, you can relax by the pool. Customers praise not only the location close to the beach, but also the cleanliness, amenities, comfortable mattresses, spacious rooms and very good service with helpful staff.
This low-cost beachfront accommodation in Cenang is ideal for those who prefer bungalows to large resorts. Despite the low price, the quality remains high, with customers praising the clean and well-maintained rooms and beautiful beach views. However, some guests note that rooms closer to the road are not as good.
The lodges near the jungle attract nature and animal lovers, with monkeys being frequent visitors. However, be prepared for the monkeys to be cheeky and potentially steal your belongings, so always lock your room and keep an eye on your things. And, of course, don’t feed the animals. Scooter rental is available on the property, and laundry services are provided. Several restaurants are nearby, including Cactus, which is renowned for its excellent cuisine.
The newer resort offers accommodations close to nature and is just a 10 to 15-minute walk from the beach. If you prefer to stay in, you can relax by the pool, just a few steps away. While some customers mention that the rooms are small, they praise the cleanliness, quiet environment, and friendly staff. Restaurants, shops and smaller duty free are also within walking distance.
Nadias Hotel is perfect for those seeking a central location amidst the hustle and bustle. Situated in the heart of Cenang, right by the beach and adjacent to Cenang Mall and Square, you’ll have a plenty of dining options, shops, duty-free and massage to choose from. Cenang Mall also offers currency exchange services and ATM. Additionally, Food trucks line up every evening, just a 10-minute walk away. Don’t miss the Flo Lounge on the hotel’s rooftop, where you can enjoy breathtaking sunset views — open to both hotel guests and non-guests alike.
The hotel is situated right next to Nadias Hotel, offering similar benefits in terms of location, accommodation standards, room quality, and pricing. This makes both hotels an excellent choice for budget-conscious travelers who desire proximity to the beach and essential services. It’s important to note that the central location may come with drawbacks like increased street traffic.
This hotel is part of the same chain as Adya Hotel in Cenang, but it’s situated in Kuah, the capital city (be mindful not to mix them up). Its location makes it perfect for those seeking proximity to the jetty or downtown attractions like Maha Tower, Splash Out Waterpark or Eagle Square. The hotel boasts a spacious pool with a scenic view, friendly staff, and very good cuisine, particularly local dishes. Keep in mind, though, that there isn’t a beach like the one in Cenang or Tanjung Rhu.
Delta Chenang Resort is located on the edge of Cenang Beach, providing a quieter environment. Despite its peaceful setting, it’s conveniently close to shops and restaurants, just a 5-minute walk away, including the popular evening food trucks and stalls. Right next door, you’ll find Underwater World and a large duty-free store. The resort offers a choice between older original cabins and a new modern building, catering to different budgets. Breakfast is served in the restaurant overlooking the beach.
Sandy Beach Resort is one of the older accommodations, so do not expect luxury. The main advantage is its prime location right on the beach at a very pleasant and affordable price. Despite its age, guests praise the cleanliness and good level of service. The resort features a restaurant overlooking the beach and offers foot massages, which are certainly welcome after exploring the beauty of Langkawi.
Located right on the beach, the resort features a pool with several slides, making it popular with families on a tighter budget. However, it is also suitable for couples — we recommend the bungalows located in the treetops overlooking the beach for a romantic experience. Just opposite the Malibest Resort is a 7/11 for basic grocery shopping and an ATM. There are also restaurants and shops in the immediate vicinity. Some guests say that the rooms could use a refurbishment, but most are happy with the value for money, convenient location and friendly staff.
Best Star Resort is very similar in style to Malibest, so don’t expect luxury accommodation as it is one of the older hotels. However, if you want to be right on the beach and at a reasonable price, this is the place for you. The hotel is situated next to Cenang Mall and the main square, giving you all the shops and services at your fingertips. While the hotel is older and some reviews are not entirely complimentary, many guests are very happy with both the accommodation and the level of service.
Note for foreign visitors
The most common comment we hear from customers about hotels is the small selection for breakfast, even in the better resorts. The reason is simple — you’re in Malaysia, where, like elsewhere in Asia, we have different eating habits than in Western countries. Our favorite traditional breakfasts include Nasi Lemak (rice with sambal — spicy sauce, egg, fried anchovies, and peanuts), Bubur (rice porridge), Roti Canai (flatbread with curry sauce) or Kaya (coconut jam) toast with soft-boiled eggs. Of course, we also eat cereals, omelets and more, but cheese, cold cuts and pastries are not as common as in Western countries. As hotels adapt to local customs, the selection may seem limited unless you want to eat rice and noodles for breakfast.
If you’re only going to be in Langkawi for a few days, you probably won’t mind the smaller hotel breakfast selection. For a longer stay, however, it may become bothersome. In such cases, we recommend booking accommodation without breakfast and going out instead. Especially in and around Cenang, you’ll find plenty of places offering a variety of local and Western breakfasts, allowing you to eat something different every day.
Higher standard accommodation in Langkawi
In this category, you will find hotels located on or near the beach, with rooms equipped with air conditioning. Most of these hotels offer swimming pools and excellent service, while the prices remain reasonable compared to luxury accommodations. However, prices can be higher during the peak season. For cheaper rates without compromising on quality, consider traveling outside the high season.
This newer hotel offers modern-style accommodation with a large swimming pool. It is located behind Cenang Mall, placing it in the heart of Cenang, close to shops, restaurants, services, ATM and currency exchange, duty-free shops and massages. Despite being centrally located, it offers a quieter environment compared to hotels situated right on the square. Guests frequently praise the clean and well-furnished rooms, proximity to the beach (only a 5-minute walk), and the very helpful and professional staff.
Holiday Villa Resort is one of the most popular accommodations among our customers. This is mainly due to its location in a quieter part of Tengah Beach, its two large swimming pools (one of which offers a beautiful view of the beach and sea), clean spacious rooms, a pleasant environment full of greenery, very good cuisine and helpful staff. All this is offered at a reasonable price, reflecting the quality of services provided. Although it is an older hotel and not a brand-new modern one – you can find newer options in the area, but they are significantly more expensive.
Camar Resort is located next to Holiday Villa and offers a similar level of accommodation and quality of service. In addition to its beachfront location, a large swimming pool with an integrated bar is a definite advantage. The hotel boasts excellent cuisine, and there are plenty of restaurants, bars, and cafes in the area. If you crave a livelier atmosphere, Cenang can be reached in a few minutes by Grab or in about 15 to 20 minutes walk.
Nestled along Pantai Tengah Beach, Frangipani Resort offers an eco-friendly retreat with stunning views of the Andaman Sea. This award-winning resort boasts spacious rooms, private villas, programs for families with children, and sustainable practices, making it a perfect choice for environmentally-conscious travelers. Guests can enjoy a variety of amenities, including a pool, organic spa treatments and a beachfront restaurant serving delicious local cuisine. With its commitment to green initiatives and high quality accommodation, Frangipani Resort provides an unforgettable stay in Langkawi.
Aloft Langkawi Pantai Tengah offers a vibrant and contemporary stay just steps from the beach. Known for its stylish design and modern amenities, this hotel provides spacious rooms with panoramic views, a chic rooftop bar and pool. Guests can enjoy a variety of dining options, a 24-hour fitness center and easy access to nearby attractions, shops and restaurants. Perfect for both business and leisure travelers, Aloft Langkawi combines comfort, convenience, and cutting-edge style for an unforgettable stay in Langkawi.
Resorts World Langkawi is located at the end of the Tengah area, offering a peaceful and quiet retreat. While there is no direct beach access, a beautiful Tengah beach can be reached in about 5 to 10 minutes by car. The resort compensates with an infinity pool that offers spectacular views of the Andaman sea and surrounding islands. Additionally, there is a second pool within the complex. Guests particularly praise the stunning views from the rooms and the exceptionally helpful staff, despite the rooms being slightly older. This is reflected in the more affordable pricing compared to hotels situated directly on the beach.
Arch Studio Cenang offers a modern and chic stay in the heart of Cenang Beach, Langkawi. This stylish accommodation is just a short walk from the beach, making it perfect for those looking to soak up the sun and enjoy swimming and water sports. You’ll also be very close to shops and restaurants. If you’re a fan of street food, you’ll love the food trucks that appear every evening right next to your accommodation. Right across the street is the Underwater World Langkawi and a large duty-free store.
S’ekar Pinang is located approximately 15 minutes by car from Cenang, in a typical kampung (village) area, making it perfect for travelers seeking peace and nature while being close to Langkawi’s highlights. Each room is thoughtfully designed, blending modern amenities with traditional Malaysian touches. Although there is no beach, a swimming pool with pleasant views of the lush greenery compensates for it. Due to the more private nature of the accommodation, you can be assured of not only luxurious design but also superior care from the staff and owners.
Rebak Island Resort is the only resort on Rebak Island, offering a perfect escape from stress and hustle and bustle. Perfect relaxation is exactly what most guests enjoy. The resort provides everything you need for your stay, including comfortable rooms, some with sea views, a large pool with sun loungers, excellent cuisine, a spa and helpful staff. The gazebo overlooking the sea is ideal for romantic dinners. For activities, you can rent a kayak or paddleboard or explore the surrounding nature. A shuttle boat runs to Langkawi’s main island several times a day until late at night, ensuring easy access to other attractions.
The perfect choice for those who want great service but prefer more intimate accommodation than large hotels. Casa Del Mar is located at the beginning of Cenang Beach, offering a quieter setting. The main facilities include a swimming pool with sun loungers overlooking the beach and sea. The excellent cuisine, especially dinner with a spectacular beach view, is not to be missed. For variety, you’ll find a great selection of local and western restaurants nearby. Water sports are also available right at your doorstep for fun and excitement. Just across the road from the resort is the Laman Padi Museum, perfect for a bit of exploration. Most guests, including many repeat customers, particularly praise the location and the super helpful staff. They also mention the nice clean rooms and the tasty breakfast.
Private accommodation in Langkawi
Private accommodation is simply for those who prefer villas, cottages or bungalows to large hotels. There are several different types of private accommodation in our selection, such as a luxury villa, a villa for large groups, accommodation where you can get to know the local life or one special floating accommodation.
Staying in typical traditional Malay houses will fully transport you to a kampung (village) atmosphere, completely different from the main tourist area of Cenang. The view of grazing buffaloes is so soothing! At the same time, you’ll be just 10 minutes away from Cenang, so grabbing a drink on the beach or wandering around the souvenir shops won’t be a problem. The villas are equipped with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and a terrace with seating, making them suitable for both short and long stays. Several restaurants and shops are within walking distance, but for a more enjoyable stay, you’ll definitely be better off renting a car or scooter.
The Dusky Leaf Langkawi is a place where aesthetic architecture blends perfectly with its surroundings. The view of the surrounding green rice fields with the majestic Machinchang in the background will surely captivate you. Be warned, though, the rice paddies are not green all year round; there is also a harvest season, so it’s best to enquire beforehand. You won’t find much around, main benefit is the peace and absolute relaxation. A larger selection of local restaurants can be found in nearby Kedawang, just 5 to 10 minutes away, while Cenang and Tengah beaches are about 15 minutes away.
Bohoq Villa, like The Dusky Leaf, offers a thoughtful design paired with spectacular views of lush green rice fields and stunning sunsets. However, Bohoq Villa is larger, accommodating bigger groups and featuring a refreshing swimming pool for hot days. A 20-minute drive takes you to Cenang or Tengah beaches. Its strategic location near the main road allows quick access to all the island’s attractions. For food enthusiasts, the nearby Nyior Cabang and Padang Matsirat boast a wide selection of local stalls and restaurants.
Coconest is a unique accommodation that has won an Airbnb award. This coconut-shaped floating retreat blends perfectly with the natural surroundings of Kilim Geopark, offering a soothing escape. Lounging in the nets at sunset is a must. While the experience and unique style come at a premium, note that service is minimal, with only breakfast provided; you’ll need to handle other meals yourself, with a grill and basic equipment supplied. Be aware that the location is on a busy mangrove cruise and fishing boat route and the platform is used for water sports, so absolute privacy isn’t guaranteed. Despite the higher cost, Coconest offers a one-of-a-kind experience in Langkawi.
Accommodation in Lavanya Residence villas (you can find more than one on Agoda) is ideal for those who prefer privacy, comfort, modern design and easy access to shops and restaurants. The villas are spacious, accommodating larger families or groups of friends. Each villa features a fully equipped kitchen, living room, modern bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a swimming pool. Tengah Beach is just a 10-minute walk away, with restaurants and shops in the immediate vicinity.
The detached villas, furnished in a modern style and equipped with a small kitchen and barbecue area, are perfect for short or long stays in a quiet environment surrounded by lush tropical greenery. Guests can enjoy the communal swimming pool and outdoor kitchen seating area. If the owner is present, you can also experience typical Malaysian hospitality through pleasant conversations. Rouhi Retreats is located in Ayer Hangat, a less touristy part of Langkawi, allowing you to fully enjoy the local vibe with plenty of local restaurants and stalls nearby. Tanjung Rhu Beach, which is also minimally visited, is just a 10-minute scooter ride away.
Tanjung Rhu Pool Villa, like previous Rouhi Retreats, is located in Ayer Hangat, a non-touristy area of Langkawi, but is slightly closer to the beach. This villa features four separate double bedrooms and a shared pool, sitting area, and kitchen, making it ideal for larger groups seeking both togetherness and privacy. The area boasts several similar accommodations, all offering a family-friendly atmosphere and abundant greenery, ensuring a truly healing and relaxing stay.
